The importance of qualifications in a decontamination role
All dental practices must have a nominated lead member of staff responsible for infection control and decontamination. This role is defined in the HTM01-05 as:
Decontamination lead: The code of practice makes it a requirement that an individual is given the responsibility for infection control & decontamination. This person should have the experience and authority to perform this task and should be accountable to the registered manager.
HTM01-05 - Section 9.3
Recent CQC reports have also highlighted a need for role specific training.
The practice had allocated an infection control lead, they had not received role specific training.
