How to use BC-San
BC-San is a disinfection concentrate for application with the Clean Water Bottle on a Pressurised Dental Unit Water System. BC-San will disinfect and remove any staining on older bottles.
BC-San is suitable for a wide variety of disinfection procedures.
Disinfecting the clean water bottle using BC-San
BC-San is an easy to use disinfectant and cleaner for use on the clean water bottle.
BC-San is designed to disinfect the internal, external and thread of the clean water bottle, plus remove any staining. Always wear PPE as BC-San is a Hypochlorite based chemical. We recommend this is done weekly.

Step 1
Use a small amount of neat solution on a clean paper towel and wipe the external surface and thread, as well as the inlet tube, allow to dry.

Step 2
Pour the remaining BC-San into the clean water
bottle, fill with potable water and leave overnight or at least 6 hours. This contact time will disinfect your bottle.
We recommend a two bottle approach, this way you can disinfect one bottle whilst the other is filled with Alpron and attached to the chair overnight as per the Alpron protocol.

Step 3
Following contact time - discard the solution and rinse with potable water. Your bottle will now be disinfected and ready for use.
Disinfecting the Alpron Storage Container
We also recommend that the Alpron storage container is disinfected from time to time. The procedure is the same as for the clean water bottle, wipe the outside of the container with a paper towel soaked with a little BC-San. Once completed add 300ml (instead of 100ml) of BC-San into the container, fill with potable water and leave for at least 6 hours. Following contact time – discard the solution and rinse with potable water.
As an alternative, you can use chlorine tablets, such as our SoChlor chlorine tablets to disinfect the Alpron storage container. Simply add a chlorine tablet and leave for 6 hours or ideally overnight.
Please note, chlorine tablets should not be used for disinfecting the clean water bottle, only BC-San should be used on the chair bottle.
Disinfecting Medical Devices
BC-San is suitable for use as a virucial wipe solution for items which cannot be autoclaved, such as interoral cameras or those things that are sensitive to heat.

Step 1
Remove any visible coarse contamination with a cellulose wipe. Pre-disinfect the surface of the device using a TB effective disinfection wipe such as Plastisept wipes. Follow the contact time.

Step 2
If possible disconnect the part of the device to be disinfected from the base. Soak a suitable cellulose wipe in BC-San 100.

Step 3
Wipe the device thoroughly with the soaked wipe and leave for the appropriate contact time (5 minutes).
Disinfecting Wipe Dispenser Boxes
BC-San can be used to disinfect refillable wipe dispensers, such as our Maxi-Wipes or the Clinell Universal Bucket Wipes.
This should be done to ensure no cross-contamination onto the wipes

Step 1
Open the wipe dispenser box and dispose of any remaining wipes or solution. Using BC-San soaked on a cellulose wipe, thoroughly wipe all internal parts of the open wipe dispenser box, including the tear-off element and the closing cap.

Step 2
Leave the box and lid open to dry for 10 minutes. Place your new refi ll pack of wipes into the wipe dispenser box. Cut along the marked line if refi lling a Maxiwipe tub.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should I clean the clean water bottle with BC-San?
We recommend the clean water bottle is disinfected weekly, and at a minimum once a fortnight.
Why is disinfecting the bottle important?
The clean water bottle can introduce outside contamination into the dental unit waterlines. For example, staff handling the bottle during refilling without washing their hands or using gloves.
If your samplers are increasing in C.F.U count, it may be worth investigating your water bottle disinfection protocols.
Can I use chlorine tablets to disinfect the clean water bottle?
No, as the clean water bottle is classed as a medical device, a CE marked product must be used to disinfect it. BC-San is CE marked and thus approved for use on the bottle. Whereas chlorine tablets are usually not. Chlorine tablets can be used on the Alpron Storage Container as it is not a medical device.
Are there any other methods I can use to disinfect the bottle?
If you have a Washer Disinfector, you can use this to clean and disinfect the water bottle. It is unlikely that the clean water bottle would fit in an ultrasonic bath (it would need to be completely submerged) as such we wouldn’t suggest ultrasonic cleaning.
