4 Ways We’re Supporting Sustainability and How You Can Too

The healthcare sector is estimated to contribute 5% to UK carbon emissions. More and more sustainable healthcare products are entering the market, and product creators are making huge efforts to reduce the carbon footprint of the manufacturing process.

At Aura, we are committed to promoting sustainability and helping our customers adopt more sustainable practices. Here are four ways we are supporting this commitment.

Recyclable Packaging

Alpron, BC-San and Bilpron are made from
high-density polyethylene (HDPE). HDPE is widely recycled and these products are no exception. Simply rinse out the bottles with water and dispose in your recycling waste stream.

Other products in our range that are recyclable include:

  • AlproJet-DD and AlproJet-W (1 and 5 Litre containers).
  • AlproCleaner.
  • Bib-Forte Eco.
  • Hospec Range.
  • TR Range.
  • Printosept-ID impression disinfectant.

Sustainable Product Production

The Alpron and BRS system are manufactured in Germany by our partner, Alpro Medical GmbH.

Sustainability is an important focus for Alpro Medical. Their headquarters located in the Black Forest region of Germany uses both Solar and Geothermal energy to produce emission-free products.

Adehyde and Phenol Free Products

Alpro Medical are committed to producing products free of damaging Aldehydes and Phenols.

Our other partners are also producing innovative and sustainable infection control solutions.
GAMA Healthcare, creators of the Clinell range are reducing plastics where possible and introducing plastic-free products.

Carbon Offsetting

This January, we are attending the Bupa Dental Care Dental Health is Live event. We are offering attendees the chance to offset the carbon of their travel to the event.

The carbon we offset at this event will go towards planting 6 hectares of short-rotation coppice (SRC) willow, approximately 50,000 trees.

The willow will be harvested every 3-4 years to be used as a biofuel, and regenerate for 7-8 harvests (20-25 years in total).

Tips for more sustainable practice

Biodegradable and Reusable Products

New innovations in infection control are producing more sustainable products than ever before. Our reusable and plastic-free product offerings include:

Autoclavable Microfibre ClothsUsed dry for removing dust and loose particles from all hard surfaces. Can be Autoclaved at 121, allowing the cloths to be reused.

HTM07-01 - Safe and sustainable management of healthcare waste

The updated HTM07-01 was introduced in 2023. As part of the NHS Clinical Waste Strategy, the ambition of the updated guidance aims to eliminate avoidable waste.

The HTM07-01 introduces new classifications of healthcare waste which can be disposed of via more sustainable methods. It also encourages healthcare settings to move away from single-use products where possible.

Implementing the guidance can help your practice become more sustainable by adopting more efficient waste disposal methods.
